Grand pair of Chinese Qing Dynasty Yongzheng porcelain pear vase, on hardwood pedestal within a snug fitting box. The vase has been encased in a deep red underglaze. The immaculate porcelain body is covered with a characteristic silky glaze, with fine floral details covering the finish. The feminine body rises naturally into a stout neck, eventually angling outward at the opening. A pair of perched magpies rest in gnarled cherry blossom branches. Magpies are known as the bird of joy and is a good omen, brings joy, often marital bliss. Two Magpies is a pictographic metaphor for twofold happiness and thus a suitable subject for an engraving to be given to someone to express congratulations, particularly given as a marriage gift. The clay is very fine, with a brilliant glaze finish that was applied by a meticulous craftsman. Mark on base, six blue underglazed script -KaiShu- characters, enclosed by double fine blue rings, YongZheng Reign Period of Great Qing Dynasty.
