Description

大鹏金翅鸟，梵语称“迦楼罗”，是佛教重要的护法神，为天龙八部之一。据说此鸟出自印度雪山，以龙蛇为食，后成为佛教的护法神。其常见于佛祖的背龛之顶，是本师释迦牟尼佛在印度金刚座证道时，所具六种庄严之一，象征弘法利生事业的胜利。此件大鹏金翅鸟,头生二角，双目圆鼓，面颊蓄卷须，喙长而尖利，形貌令人怖畏。躯体健壮，背生双翅，羽尾上翘，双足直立，身姿前探，做飞行壮。其双臂张开，原应握持长蛇，象征身份来源。与平面的背龛配件不同，此像为单独雕琢的作品，栩栩如生地表现了护法神的威严，羽毛等处雕刻精细，制作工艺精湛，可见其原配主尊工艺必更为精美，值得收藏。
