Emerging as a self-taught artist during his mid-twenties, by the 1950s, Affandi began to use oil paints executed pictures of Indonesia subjects in a vividly coloured expressionist impasto. Affandi developed his coincidental technique of applying paint from its tube directly to the canvas to perfection, and with it the style that became his trademark. 阿凡迪(1907—1990)，印度尼西亚著名的当代艺术家，在印尼当代艺术史上奠定了极其重要的地位，被称为“印尼国宝”，。阿凡迪可以说是印度尼西亚当代艺术的典型代表，通过阿凡迪的画作，充分体现出印尼当代艺术的演变和历史。他以别树一帜的飞驰笔触及结实厚重的用色见称，喜欢把颜料直接挤到画面上，并以手指代替画笔作画，构成独一无二的画风。作为一个抽象表现主义画家，阿凡迪在画中尽情表现他的自我认知，让观赏者直接窥探画家的心灵深处。阿凡迪情感多变，其作品常常流露出画家强烈澎湃的情感，透过灵活多变的笔触及厚涂技法，有力地表现出个人最深情及隐密的一面。
