水将是玄武大帝的两大护法之一，此尊与火将通常成对出现，通称水火二将，又称龟蛇二将。他们的来历有两种不同的说法：一种认为他们来自真武大帝的腑脏，也就是由玄武大帝的肚子和肠子变化而来，再一种认为他们是玄武大帝收服的二魔王的化身。此尊头戴五梁冠，面庞丰肥，浓眉紧蹙，怒目圆睁，蓄有络腮胡须。身躯壮硕，穿中国传统武将铠甲，双手持有长柄旌旗。脚蹬武将战靴，站立于岩石台座之上。整像形象威猛，造型逼真，雕刻技艺十分高超，更兼外部原饰有镀金，更添其艺术价值，是一尊十分难得的明代道教造像杰作。
