|笔筒以紫檀为材质，筒形，口微外撇，整器造型简洁，线条匀细流畅。外壁饰梅花，树枝遒劲、枝叶卷曲，昭示着春季的到来。其上以螺钿、金青石碧玉、南红玛瑙等为料，采用镶嵌技法制成，嵌工精致。百宝嵌之工，据《西京杂记》说：“天子笔管以错宝为研。”其做法，有隐起如浮雕的，也有表面平齐，不见起伏的。而此笔筒镶嵌手法细作“疏香暗影”图，栩栩如生，图文端庄清雅，妙趣横生，可谓精工巧制。
