寿山石，质地脂润，色彩斑斓，品种繁多，柔而易攻。因出产于福建省福州市的寿山及其附近村落而得名，是我国独有的名贵彩石。向为海内外收藏家所珍宝。寿山石原石的收藏早在明朝初年以前就已经开始，据福建省民间艺术馆(微博)发布的《2011年度寿山石市场分析报告》数据显示，2009年上述4家公司举办的寿山石专场拍卖总成交金额仅为4869万元，而到了2011年，这一数字为4.1亿元，市场交易规模增长达8倍之多。2012年，受艺术品市场整体环境影响，寿山石雕的行情趋势也相应回落，春拍期间4家公司的寿山石专场拍卖总成交金额为1.2亿元，2011年上半年这一数字为1.09亿元，与其他门类比较，寿山石的市场表现相对稳健，超出此前预期。
